■略歴
1958年生まれ。82年、一橋大学社会学部卒業。(株)パルコ入社。マーケティング情報誌『アクロス』編集室勤務。同誌編集長。
「第四山の手」「新人類」等のキーワードを使い、時代、世代、消費、都市、文化などを分析。特に団塊世代研究、東京論、郊外研究等により注目を集める。
90年、三菱総合研究所入社。マーケティング、文化施設企画等を担当。
99年、「カルチャースタディーズ研究所」設立。団塊ジュニア世代、団塊世代などの世代マーケティングを中心に、自動車、家電、情報機器、食品、化粧品などの商品企画、デザインのためのマーケティングの調査、コンサルテーション等を行う。
 近年特に、世代別のデザイン志向性を調査し、どの世代にどんなデザインの製品が売れるかと推定する「感性言語連想法」によるデザインマーケティング調査の実績を積んでいる。 
 また、家族、消費、都市問題などを横断する独自の「郊外社会学」を展開するほか、「下流社会」「ファスト風土」「2005年体制」「真性団塊ジュニア世代」などの概念を提案、マーケティング業界のみならず、社会学、家族論、青少年論、教育論、都市計画論、住居学、建築論など各方面から注目されている。

1982 Graduated from Hitotsubashi University, Sociology Department Joined Parco, Co., Ltd., editorial department for marketing information magazine Across.
1986 Managing editor for Across. Analysis of demographics, consumption, cities and culture. Gained attention for research on the baby boomer generation, studies of Tokyo, suburbs, etc.
1990 Joined Mitsubishi Research Institute In charge of marketing, cultural facilities planning, multi-media content planning, etc.
1999 Resigned from Mitsubishi Research Institute Founded 'culturestudies', a think tank for research on consumption, cities and culture. Research on the lifestyle and values of the baby boomer, shinjinrui and baby boomer junior generations; suburbs; family; consumer culture, etc. Gained attention in the marketing field and beyond, including sociology, family studies, youth studies, urban planning, housing, and architecture.
